Beginning Yoga

Wednesday 1:00-2:15 pm

Have you always wanted to do yoga, but felt too intimidated, or that it would be too hard? Beginning Yoga is designed for those dealing with injuries, or who have limited experience with yoga. This class focuses on basic yoga postures with one-on-one instruction to help facilitate proper breathing, body positioning, and holds.

Instructor: Jill Browne, RYT
Duration: 8 weeks

Beginning and Intermediate Yoga

Monday 7:15 - 8:30 pm

This class is an exploration of the ancient practice of Hatha Yoga, the art and science of physical well-being and optimum health.  The class is offered to both beginning students and those with experience with practicing yoga.  A gentle approach to a series of basic postures promotes a sense of overall well-being.  Students are guided through a sequence of postures involving gentle stretching and deep breathing techniques which tones muscles, increases strength, stamina and flexibility, revitalizes the immune system, and improves concentration and balance.  The atmosphere of the class is quiet and soothing and students are encouraged to work at their own pace.  The intimate relationship of mind, breath, and body are a major focus of the class.  Each class ends with a guided deep relaxation exercise which releases stored tensions and stress from deep within mind and body. The exercise results in a feeling of being in balance, grounded and lighter at the same time--younger, stronger, rejuvenated, clearer, peaceful and light-hearted.

Instructor: Jeff Leaich, RYT
Duration: 8 weeks
Session rate: $90

Advanced Yoga

Wednesday 6:45-8:15

This class is a further exploration of Hatha Yoga and is open to those who have had some experience with yoga and want to take their practice to a deeper level.  Although an advanced class, basic postures are used to explore the relationship of mind, breath, and body. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace in a soothing, quiet atmosphere. The true value of Hatha yoga lies beyond physical well-being and is only a preparation for meditation and realizing the vastness of being.

Instructor: Jeff Leaich, RYT
Duration: 8 weeks

In this class, we place a strong emphasis on body mechanics used to carry out daily activities from unloading the dishwasher to getting in and out of a car. The gentle exercise portion of the class educates the participants in the correct way to stretch a muscle and not stress the joints. Much of the exercises are weight-bearing activities. Hand held weights and elastic bands are used for resistance to arm and leg exercises. Our class addresses risk factors through practical information sharing and exercise to help you live a more healthy, happy lifestyle.

Tai Chi Chuan

Tuesday 4:30-5:30 pm

T'ai Chi Ch'uan is the ancient Chinese practice of good health.  It involves slow, meditative movements that are easy and fun to learn.  Based on proper breathing, posture, and relaxation, students will learn simple techniques for practicing meditation, joint loosening, opening of the chi energy channels, qigong exercises, and the Yang style form.

Tai Chi Chuan is an internal martial art designed to energize and focus ones awareness internally for the benefit of physical and psychological health.  Those who practice this art typically experience lowered levels of stress and blood pressure, improved balance and sleep quality, increased respiratory and cardiovascular fitness, reduced feelings of anxiety and depression, and heightened sense of well-being.

Everyone can practice and benefit from Tai Chi; including those with Parkinson’s Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Arthritis, Hypertension, and many other conditions.  No special uniforms or equipment are required.  Students are directed to wear loose fitting clothing and flat soled shoes.
