Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve functional independence in every facet of their lives. It gives people the "skills for the job of living" necessary to fulfill their "roles," maintain independence, and to lead satisfying lives.Occupational Therapy is derived from the philosophy that "life satisfaction is not determined by the momentous events that make significant marks in our memories (weddings, graduation, promotions, etc.) but rather from our everyday tasks of living, or occupations, which we take for granted until their accomplishment becomes difficult". Because such occupations contain mental as well as physical components, Occupational Therapy seeks to address "occupational disease" from a holistic point of view. Services typically include;
- Customized treatment programs to improve the client's ability to perform daily activities independently
- Performance skills assessment and treatment
- Adaptive equipment recommendations and training
- Guidance to family members and caregivers
